GROUP PORTRAIT- AN EXHIBITION

The exhibition ‘Group Portrait’ presented the works of twelve emerging artists, Meg Alty, Hannah Benassi, Inês Hermione, Julia Mackenzie, Tara McCullough, Mhairi McPhail, Amelia Morgan, Nancy Nightingale, Holly Powers, Charlotte Taylor, Celestine Thomas and Jenna Waldren.

The title ‘Group Portrait’ stemmed from a painting created in 1977 by artist Sylvia Sleigh. The piece depicts the founding members of A.I.R. Gallery, the first commercial art gallery dedicated to female artists.

Taking inspiration from these women, ‘Group Portrait’ showcased a variety of artworks, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, textiles and mixed media pieces, all ranging in style and scale. The artists featured, linked together through not only their connection to Edinburgh but also to each other, as young, emerging female artists.
