Photographs of Jenna Waldren and her studio space in the Mutual Co-Op (Edinburgh), taken by photographer Julia McKenzie, 2023.

Jenna Waldren's artistic practice is deeply rooted in the act of looking. Through observing her immediate surroundings her work acts as an almost autobiography: documenting glimmers of her daily life. These snapshots frequently capture friends and loved ones, celebrating the beauty of human connection. Those depicted are often caught mid-gesture,  performing everyday activities, often engrossed in a moment of contemplation or thought.

In other works, Waldren turns the lens on herself, in an attempt to process particular emotions or changes in her life. Using drawing, painting and printmaking in a careful and tender manner, her work experiments with the balance of the graphic versus the painterly, juxtaposing bold lines against delicate, detailed areas of focus.

Waldren graduated from the BA (Hons) Painting programme at the University of Edinburgh with a First-Class Honours. She is now based in North London, where she continues to develop her professional practice.
